Who We Are
Since 2006, Freedom House has walked with mothers through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Guilford County, North Carolina, we provide a long-term, Christian-based recovery program where women can heal from addiction while living with their young children in a safe, structured, and family-focused environment. Here, mothers are equipped with the tools they need to rebuild emotionally, spiritually, and physically, while strengthening their bond with their children.
Our mothers often come to us from prisons, hospitals, or detox centers. Many are financially destitute, homeless, and without access to transportation or a support system. They are facing the heartbreaking reality of losing custody of their children—many of whom are already in foster care—and are at risk of having their parental rights terminated. Most are battling severe mental, physical, and spiritual challenges, with little to no help from family or friends.
At Freedom House, we meet them right where they are. Our dedicated program team works tirelessly to help each mother and child move toward a life fully restored. By the time our residents graduate, they have typically regained custody of their children, secured full-time employment, resolved legal issues, saved money for stable housing, and obtained a vehicle to support their family's needs.
But our impact goes even deeper. Our graduates leave with renewed self-esteem, healthy bonds with their children, and the skills to continue walking in sustained recovery. They leave not only sober—but strengthened, equipped, and empowered to build a new legacy.

What’s Included in Our Free Long-Term Recovery for Mothers
Freedom House offers a long-term, Christian residential program where mothers can recover from addiction without being separated from their children. Over the course of 9-12 months, each woman moves through four levels of care that addresses the root cause of addiction and prepares her for lasting change.
Each resident receives a custom treatment plan with individual therapy, group therapy, recovery classes, and life-skills development.
Through daily Bible study, worship, and mentorship, women build a strong foundation of faith and find freedom in Christ.
Mothers remain with their children throughout the program and receive guidance on parenting, routines, and healthy family rhythms.
Hands-on work experience at our thrift stores and farm prepares women for employment and helps restore confidence and purpose.
Teaching covers emotional health, budgeting, nutrition, relationships, and daily responsibilities needed for independent living.
We provide rides to appointments, Celebrate Recovery, and more—plus optional aftercare housing and mentorship after graduation.
